Situated in Central France, in Berry, Bourges is a place of culture, history and reconcile the charm of the city (cinemas, theatre, concerts – Un été à Bourges) and the calm of the country (Les marais de Bourges).

Saint-Stephen's Cathedral

 

Built between the end of the 12th and the 13th century, its sculptures and stain glasses are remarkably beautiful. The cathedral represents a masterpiece of the gothic architecture. It became part of the UNESCO’s World heritage in 1992.

 

You visit the interior of the cathedral, the crypt and walk up the main tower (396 marches). With a fabulous sight over the historic parts of the town.

Historical town-center : "Le vieux Bourges"

 

Walk around the heart of Bourges where you can admire the half-timbering houses of the past. Strating on June 15th until September 15th, at night you can follow a light-marked path in the old town, where sound and sights will lead you back to the town’s prestigious past. See for "Nuits Lumières".

The Marais de Bourges (The Marshes of Bourges)

 

On entering Charlet street, on your left, you will find the « Chemin des Prébandes » (Prébandes Lane). It leads you quickly into the heart of the Marshes. These marshes were drained by monks in the middle ages and turned into a myriad of vegetable gardens. Pure air and an amazing calm right in the city centre.

The rivers Yèvre and Voiselle flowing through the marshes, are divided in many small canals supplying the gardens with water. The gardeners have to get to their plots.

Every year, at the first week-end of September, “La fête des marais” (the feast of the Marshes) offers a colorful event.

Festival : Le printemps de Bourges

As an international music festival, the Printemps de Bourges offers 6 days of music. You can listen to well-known artists but also discover gifted newcomers on the “Scènes Découvertes” (Discovery Stages).

The festival will happen from 12th to 17th april 2016.

La Route Jacques Cœur

 

The "Route Jacques Cœur", a famous French tourist road is linking the town of Gien (Loiret department) with a small town Culan in the south of the Cher department.

This nice road goes up and down the hills and valleys, passing through the vineyards of Sancerre and Menetou-Salon with exceptional castles, abbeys, watchtowers, the Bourges Cathedral and others.
